When my friend asked if I wanted to go with her to a wine tasting at Finches Sandwiches & Sundries, my answer was “YES!” A few weeks earlier, I had begun seeing posts for the new spot, and I was dying to check it out.

Located just down from the entrance to Bonaventure Cemetery in Thunderbolt, Finches has a vibe. Intrinsically hip, it was apparent that Finches is quickly becoming a local hangout, and many of the attendees seemed to know each other. Most appeared to have walked from their homes. It was a very cozy evening outside with firepits, food, and wine. My friend and I posted up on the tailgate of her car to enjoy our sips and snacks.
Wine
Each guest received a Finches wine tumbler to take home. Our tasting host, Natalie, provided thoughtful information for each of the wines offered. As much as I love food, I don’t drink very often. Unfortunately, I’m not much help when it comes to the nuances or more technical aspects of wine varieties. For what it is worth, my favorite was the Cocchi Brachetto D’acqui. It was mildly sweet, fizzy, and a little bit tart. The perfect way to end the night!

Finches’ Sandwiches
Along with the wine tasting, Finches served small bites. While I’ve not yet made it to Finches for their daily lunch, I know where to set my expectations. The food was simple but in the best way.

Up first, a grilled cheese (on what I believe was brioche bread) with the perfect amount of cheesy stretch. Next, we tried shredded pork with sweet, soaked raisins (delicious) served with crostini. And finally, the BEST hummus topped with salt and vinegar vegetables. Something about the acidity vegetables with the creamy hummus—out of this world good! I can’t wait to go back to try more of their sandwiches…and to get more of those salt and vinegar veggies.
Finches’ Sundries

The wine tasting was held outdoors (perfect for social distancing), but Finches was open for us to peruse their shop. The sundries at Finches’ are unique and creative, full of nostalgic throwbacks like GooGoo Clusters alongside local small businesses wares. There is a 30-something-millennial feel…which is a-ok with this 30-something millennial.

You’ll find cleverly named candles from a local company, The Candle Bro. I LOVED the “Bottomless Mimosas” and “A Little Bit Alexis” scents. The shop has other fun items like t-shirts with quippy sayings, vintage-inspired apparel, and jewelry. It’s obvious that items in the shop were hand-selected and nothing made it to Finches’ shelves unintentionally.

Finches Sandwiches & Sundries has me wishing for warmer weather and afternoons spent outdoors. It is a perfect summer-time pit stop on the way to Tybee or before a day of boating. I know that I’ll be back to sample some of their other sandwiches…and definitely for the hummus.

Seriously excited about checking this place out. Salt and vinegar veggies? Count me in!
